Monitoring the Earth’s surface water cycle is becoming increasingly important, providing essential information for agriculture, soil and water quality assessment, irrigation, and water resource management. Surface temperature and its dynamics serve as accurate indicators of soil evaporation, plant transpiration, and local climate, supporting monitoring of ecosystem stress, water use, coastal and inland waters, urban climate, cryosphere, and the atmosphere.

The workshop will focus on key missions and initiatives, including:

  • The Indian-French high spatio-temporal TRISHNA mission (CNES & ISRO)
  • The Land Surface Temperature Monitoring (LSTM) mission (ESA-COPERNICUS)
  • The Surface Biology and Geology (SBG) mission (NASA/JPL & ASI)

Discussions will cover topics such as scientific product definitions, variables, user requirements, distribution constraints, and calibration/validation activities, fostering exchanges between the international research and operational communities.
